The Building Inspection Division enforces the adopted building codes regarding the construction of buildings and structures within the City of Richmond. The City of Richmond is part of the International Code Council: ICC which promotes dedication to developing model codes and standards used in the design, build, and compliance process to construct safe, sustainable, affordable, and resilient structures for citizens. The Building Inspection Division’s mission is to enforce the adopted building codes regarding the construction and maintenance of buildings and structures in order to provide for the health, safety and welfare of the residents of the City of Richmond. To this end, this department strives for excellence in educating its employees to provide quality inspections and customer service.

Statement Of Philosophy

The purpose of the Building Inspection Division is to preserve the viability and stability of the business and residential districts and to prevent deterioration and blighting influences within the community.
